Do You Believe in Yourself?

author Posted by: garryaw on date Nov 5th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Self Impovment

When you think about doing something different, whether it be a job, business, hobby or task what is the first thought that comes up for you?  When family or friends suggest going somewhere different, doing something differently than it has been done in the past – do you jump in with both feet or drag those feet because you want to do the same thing you have always done?

Often the reasons we drag our feet is we do not believe enough in ourselves to step out and do something differently.  We will come up with a variety of reasons or excuses why we do not want to just do it.  Are you stuck in that rut in any area of your life?  Continuous learning, doing something differently or modifying the way we do something is a way of practicing our way out of that rut.  Or to be put another way “Get out of our own way.”

Do you have a hope, dream or desire about your life?  What will you life look like in five years, do you know?  Have you even thought about it?  Many people spend more time planning their next vacation than they do the rest of their lives.  Many of us who went to college or university put a lot of thought into what degree we were going to study for, then after that we simply quit planning.  Allow our life to be run by chance, doing whatever it is that comes along or taking the path of least resistance.  Just think if you were to plan your life like you do your vacations you could retire a millionaire.

Planning is one of the ways we can build up belief in ourselves.  When we set out the plan, develop small or large action steps to take us there and then complete those steps and achieve our desired results we are also building that belief in ourselves.  We did it!  We got it done, accomplished the task.  I will always remember when, after 10 years, I received my Diploma in Adult Education.  The final push to complete the required courses was done by setting out a plan, developing daily action steps and the just doing it.  Like many other adults who receive diplomas later on in life I could have come up with many reasons or excuses why I could not accomplish the task.  Instead I created my plan and just did it.  Now it was not always easy, but I knew what benefits I would receive once I attained the goal and that assisted me in keeping going when times were rough.  Each step that took me closer to the goal also increased my belief in myself, I was accomplishing the task.

Building belief in ourselves is a life long process.  If our upbringing reinforced our belief that we could do whatever we set our minds to then we likely do.  Unfortunately most of us have not had that type of upbringing; as a result we have some learning to do.  We must teach ourselves how to build up that belief and it starts with making the decision.

One of the most effective decisions we can make is to stop taking advice from people who are not successful.  How many times have we turned to a friend, family or neighbor who is in a worse or similar situation for advice?  It is like the blind leading the blind, we turn to people we are comfortable with and they are not necessarily the person who will have the information we need to improve our situation.  We all make decisions on a daily basis as to whom we listening to, are we receiving good advice or information.

I have found that the best course of action is to find a mentor or coach, follow someone who has already walked the path you wish to travel.  This can be done with books, CD’s, DVD’s, teleclasses, workshops or one on one or any combination of the above.  The advice from one of my mentors Jim Rohn is “Get a library card”.  I have taken that advice and now have cards for three different libraries, it was excellent advice and I am very glad I followed it.  It could be one of the action steps that would work for you too.

Daily action steps are critical to achieving the goal/dream.  When you are starting out one excellent step to take is to find an accountability partner.  Someone you trust will hold you accountable to what ever actions steps you say you will take.  Most people fail in life because they don’t answer to themselves, having an accountability partner is a very effective tool in making sure that it happens.  Now you must be careful here in who you choose.  Be sure to ask someone who will actually call you on issues, not someone who will be your “yes man”.  If you would like a strong accountability partner send me an email at Carla@RetireWithCarla.com and we can set something up.

The results we achieve in our lives are our own fault; whether they are positive or negative.  It is always our choice.

“Your personal philosophy is the greatest determining factor in how your life works out.” Jim Rohn

How to Use Subliminal Messaging to Achieve Your Goals

Under large amounts of exposure subliminal messaging can have a significant effect upon your thought processes.

It can be used to form habits, and even new behavior patterns - so much so that the use of subliminal messages (either quick flashing pictures, text, or subliminal sounds) in advertising has been completely banned.

Subliminal messaging has been used to help people with a range of personal development issues. They work by sending positive messages to your subconscious mind to change any negative behavior into positive behavior, and change your life for the better - in the area you want to improvements in.

Technically subliminal messaging works as a form of “mild hypnosis” - it bypasses your “critical function” so that you won’t logically question any information you are receiving (because you can’t even hear itJ), your mind takes it as truth, and you will soon notice a personal improvement.

Subliminal messaging can be used for many different purposes, from improving memory, motivation, or confidence, to helping you to learn a new language faster, improving your study habits, or ensuring success in your chosen sport.

In use for over 50 years, the techniques of subliminal messaging can be used by anyone from any race, age group, or gender. It is completely safe, they can help you to solve a personal problem, or help ensure your success whatever your goal.

By aligning your unconscious mind with your conscious goals subliminal messaging enhances your chance of success, and ensures no hidden mental barriers or limiting beliefs get in your way!

Setting Goals: Want What You Really Want

author Posted by: garryaw on date Oct 16th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Self Impovment

Most of us only focus on goals we believe are realistic, or reasonably within our grasp. But to achieve true success and happiness we must allow ourselves to dream about the things we really want, no matter how big these things might be. This article will help you move past your limitations and focus your energies on your highest goals.

Take just a minute to consider how you want your life to look five years from now. Think about your ideal standard of living.

How much money will you have?

What will you be doing for a living?

Where will you live and what will your home be like?

Will you have a mate or partner, and if so what will he or she be like?

Be as detailed as possible. Visualize every part of your life exactly as you want it to be five years in the future.

Once you’re done, review your vision. Are you allowing yourself to see what you truly want, or are you holding back because of the need to be “realistic”?

Here’s an easy way to find out if you’re being fully honest with yourself about what you want from life five years from now. Do the visualization exercise again, only this time pretend you could wave a magic wand and have things exactly the way you want them.

If you had a magic wand there would be no reason to limit your vision, right? So go ahead and see things the way you really want them to be.

If you don’t like the analogy of a magic wand, pretend you have made friends with a multi-billionaire who is willing to cut you a check for any amount so you can fund your dream life. If this were the case you could have pretty much anything imaginable so let go and really dream up your ultimate life.

Odds are your ideal life situation looked considerably different the second time you did the visualization exercise. By default most of us restrict ourselves when we set goals and/or think about how we want life to be; but it only takes a simple exercise to loosen these restrictions and envision the way we truly want things to be.

Another version of this exercise is to imagine how you would make your life if you were god. In this simulation you are able to cast aside any and all limitations because most people think of god as an unlimited being with unlimited power. Give this one a try and think about how you would create your life five years into the future.

Many times when people apply one of the tactics above they are shocked to see just how much they were limiting themselves before. This can be a great eye-opener that will help you remove limitations and restrictions you have been unconsciously living with.

And these exercises need not be used solely for visualizing the distant future. Five years is a great point for visualization, but you can use these liberating techniques for short-term goals as well.

Instead of setting a goal to lose five pounds, why not look at what you really need to lose and go for it? If you honestly need to lose 12 pounds then make this your goal and be confident you can do it.

Instead of wanting to make an extra $200 a month, why not find the figure that really makes you happy? Set your sights for $500, $1,000, or more!

You are the ultimate creator of your own reality. Science has proven that what appears to be the world around you is actually a series of signals and communications taking place within your brain. So there is absolutely no need to hold yourself back from wanting what you really want.

Be aware of the limits you automatically impose on your thinking over the next few weeks. When you catch yourself holding back, consciously let go and allow yourself to imagine things the way you really want to see them.

Over time you will recondition your mind to allow more expansive thinking. And before you know it you’ll be able to easily visualize your highest goals and thus begin to manifest them into your reality.

Rise and Shine!

The greatest of humans are those who have risen to meet the greatest of challenges.

Are you feeling that your life is a little flabby around the edges? Do you know that there is more to you than you have been showing up with? Perhaps this is because you’ve been reacting to what others throw at you instead of setting your own goals and targets. Perhaps you just feel overwhelmed and miss the passion and clarity you once had.

What is phenomenal about having a dream and taking massive action to achieve that dream, is that you not only end up in a place that serves you better, you are also a better person as you arrive there, shaped as you have been by the road. So often we play small, denying ourselves the thrill of becoming more simply because the old way of life has tired us with its monotony and conformity. You can change this in the blink of an eye.

Creating a worthy challenge and then answering its call is the greatest pleasure afforded us in this lifetime.

Here are some empowering guantlets, thrown to you by inspring leaders.

  • ‘You must be the change you wish to see in the world.’ Gandhi
  • ‘Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.’ Princess Diana.
  • ‘Don’t let yourself be lulled into inaction.’ Bill Gates.
  • ‘Normal is not something to aspire to, it’s something to get away from.’ Jodie Foster
  • ‘If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.’ Maya Angelou
  • ‘Flaming enthusiasm, backed up by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success.’ Dale Carnegie
  • ‘Avoid using cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs as alternatives to being an interesting person.’ Marilyn vos Savant
  • ‘Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential.’ Winston Churchill.
  • ‘The winners in life treat their body as if it were a magnificent spacecraft that gives them the finest transportation and endurance for their lives.’ Denis Waitley
  • ‘I challenge you to make your life a masterpiece. I challenge you to join the ranks of those people who live what they teach, who walk their talk.’ Tony Robbins

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to make this year the best so far, starting today. The year in which you are healthier, sexier, even more amazing looking, earn so much money that you fall over in surprise, get more good lovin’ than you ever thought possible, do things that make your heroes proud of you, grow so much you can feel your spirit moving inside you, become skilled in more areas than you have in the last decade, skip straight to the top rungs of your career ladder, laugh so much every day that people want to bottle you and share you with the world, live the dream instead of inching towards it, shine, build, dance and sing and sing and sing. This is your year to live, finally to really live.

This is your birthrite. Claim it!

The 2 Million Dollar Bills Dream Is One Step Closer, The Barbados Plan Is Happening!

author Posted by: garryaw on date Jun 30th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Real World Business Opportunities

I have finally made it to Barbados and the next stage of my game plan for making 2 million dollars is on track. My goal is to develop a variety of business interests in Barbados, which will help me to become a millionaire. I plan on achieving my goal of making 2 million dollars within 5 years, can I do it? Yes I can do it, the only person that can determine whether I will succeed or fail is, MYSELF.

Talk is cheap and anybody can say that they are going to become a millionaire and then they just sit around and wait for it to happen. In fact I use to do the same myself, how can you expect it to happen, when you a are wage slave. You will never become financially free as long as you work for the boss man and your life and finances are dictated to by someone else.

I have in the past being involved in business opportunities which basically were not worth my time and effort and were complete failures, and it took me a long time to get back on track and start working towards something more than just being a miserable wage slave, stuck in a rat race, wasting my life away, Don’t Let Past Business Failures Stop Your Dream of Running a Successful Business.

Eventually I came to the conclusion that the   the rat race was killing me and the only person that could change things was, you guessed it, ME. I was like everyone else in my work place, I would spend my time moaning about how much I hated the place, the pay was crap, I could never get my holidays when I wanted them, they were making us work harder and harder, they were really trying to get the last drop blood out of the stone.

It was I suppose fortunate that I received a nasty knee injury while I was working, which resulted in me being off work almost a year, when my work place very kindly made me an offer of just over £15,000 to leave. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I was never going to go back anyway! I eventually used my time off work wisely, I formulated my escape plan, I have Finally Escaped the Rat Race, But I Aint In Paradise Yet!

I wanted out of the UK, my wife and myself had a family house in Barbados and we both like the Island, so it was a logically move to relocate to Barbados. I then had to figure out how I was going to make money. I had to look at my previous college and work experiences and figure out if I could turn them into business ventures which would support my family and help me to achieve my goal of becoming a millionaire.

In order for me to achieve my goal of becoming a millionaire and make the 2 million dollar bills dream a reality, I needed to formulate a game plan that would allow me to work towards achieving my aims.

My main skills and what I like to do is plan and organize things, as well as the advertising and promotional aspects of a business.

I knew from personally getting married in Barbados last year and the fact that know one on the island could give my wife and myself the kind of wedding we wanted. Every wedding planner we talked to in Barbados was offering what I would call a conveyor belt wedding, they all lacked inspiration and Innovation. There was no way we could leave such an important day as our wedding day, in the hands of people that were clearly  not on the same wave length as us.

My wife had worked as a wedding planner in London but she didn’t want to have to fully organize her own wedding because she knew the amount of time and effort that it would take up, she wanted to enjoy the lead up to the wedding and the wedding day itself without the headache of overseeing and organizing everything herself. But at the end of the day we were left with no choice but to do everything ourself’s.

My wife and myself pooled our skills and we created an amazing wedding, it involved a huge amount of thought, time and effort to create our vision of what we wanted.

My main skills were dealing with various suppliers and arranging to get them delivered to Barbados from America. I also arranged the catering team, marquee and created the outdoor ambiance at the venue. My wife dealt with and arranged all the more creative and design elements of the wedding. We pooled our skills and created one of the most amazing weddings ever in Barbados, for people that aren’t rich. Celebrations Caribee was born!

The first business venture was created and is called Celebrations Caribee, which is a wedding and event planning company. Through myself and my wife, who is my business partner, weddings and events will reach a level of creativity, innovation and quality that has been lacking in Barbados until now.

Another company that I have formed is called Awaken Paradise Property Consultants, the goal of this company is to arrange, organize and oversee the building of properties for people. I can source land, build or renovate properties to a high standard, which is done to UK standards and timescale’s, not Bajan! I can arrange top quality builder, architect, and a trustworthy lawyer.

Awaken Paradise Property Consultants came into being after seeing family members and friends of the family being ripped off by a variety unscrupulous builders. Too many people have been ripped off in Barbados by happy smiling builders that will promise you the world, take your money and end up building you a dangerous house or in some cases not building anything at all. I have seen too many returning nationals and tourists alike being cheated out of their hard earned money.

I also have a tourist related business which will offer something unique for people coming to Barbados, this will be live for the xmas season, if everything goes according to plan.

Making your business legal in Barbados is similar to setting up a company in the UK, as you are probably aware, as soon as you start using the services of a lawyer you end up spending lots of money. But it is worth it to have the start of your vision made a legal entity.

It is fantastic to see my business dreams and aspirations starting to take place and the first stages of the 2 million dollar bills game plan taking shape.

Staying Focussed on the Path to Success

author Posted by: garryaw on date Apr 14th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Self Impovment

Staying focussed is something, which separates the winners, from the losers, if you continually lose track of where you are going or what you are trying to achieve it will have an adverse effect on your changes of success.

I know from personal experience as I focus on developing businesses and my constant search for new opportunities, how difficult it can be to stay focussed on what you are meant to be doing.  The biggest problems I had was that I was constantly trying to do too many things at the same time and allowing myself to be easily distracted.   Because of this things wouldn’t get done or they wouldn’t be completed to the standard I expect.

I knew I had to come up with a solution or I would never be able to move forward and properly fulfil my potential. I have developed a system that works real well, which I now use it to keep me focussed and on the path to success.

Mental Relaxation - Begin the day by sitting down in comfortable chair, close your eyes and breath deeply, in through your nose and out through your mouth, do this do for 10 minutes. During this time allow yourself to become relaxed, calm and think positive thoughts.

Healthy Body & Mind - You need to make sure you eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise, exercise your brain, take time out for relaxation, you must get at least 6 hours sleep a night. These factors have a direct effect on your ability to stay focussed.

Setting Goals - have your long-term aims and goals written down and refer to them on a regular basis to remind yourself what it is your trying to achieve.

Daily Goals - At the start of each day have a list of the tasks which you plan on completing on that particular day.  You must prioritise them in order of importance and do not allow yourself be sidetracked.

Eliminate Distractions - these are one of the biggest factors for losing focus.  Allowing yourself to be sidetracked by things such as, messenger, My Space, Television, etc when you are meant to be concentrating on work. Set aside leisure time and stick to it.

David Cheong offers also offers some great pointers for  staying focussed at work.

18 Ways to Stay Focused at Work

The whole concept of staying focussed and getting more done is something that we must achieve, if we want to be successful.
