The first stage of my escape the rate race plan has finally came to fruition, I took off from Gatwick Airport on Tuesday morning at 10am bound for Barbados. It felt real good as I looked out the window from my premium economy seat, watching London quickly disappear.
Things felt even better when I was giving a glass of sparkling wine from the friendly smiling Virgin stewardess. I toasted good ridden’s to the rate race and all the best for the future in Barbados.
I have flown 4210 miles/6775 kilometers to escape the rat race of the UK and as the plane touched down in Barbados, I at last knew I wasn’t dreaming and all my hard work, effort, dreaming and planning had finally came to fruition.
But for me it is only the beginning, I had become disillusioned with life in the UK, the weather was really starting to get to me, I like warmth and heat, I guess I have had enough of the declining standards of humanity in the UK, for me the UK is now a country that puts the needs of drug addicts, criminals and delinquent children before the needs of hard working and decent people, social worker’s have been giving too much power and influence, and politicians have lost touch with what really matters.
Even though I couldn’t wait to escape the rat race and my home in Aberdeen for the past 30 something years, I will still miss so much about Aberdeen and Scotland, that I will probably get a wee bit home sick. I sure as hell missed the city of my birth Aberdeen during the past 5 weeks, as I was living in London visiting family members, before I escaped to Barbados. During my wee spell in London it made me realize how lucky I was to have lived in Aberdeen, the quality of life is so much better in Aberdeen and the Aberdeenshire area.
I may have escaped the rate race but I haven’t arrived in my own personal paradise yet, as much as I like Barbados, its only a stepping stone to somewhere even better. Barbados is just the first stage of my 2 million dollar bills goal.
My aim is to start my business enterprises in Barbados and when I have made it, I plan on moving to another Caribbean Island called Grand Turk Island which is part of the Turks & Caicos Islands. For me Grand Turk Island is truly paradise, when I move there I want to be in the enviable position of not having to worry about making money.
I plan on being in the position to be able to build a house in Grand Turk Island in about 5 years time, my businesses in Barbados will be at the stage where I will have employed good people to manage them for me. I fortunately have a lot of bright young family members in Barbados, that I will be able to train to do things in the manner, professionalism, quality and standards, which my businesses will be run with.
For me too many businesses in Barbados are poorly run and do not offer the quality of service and the standards which people in the UK, USA, Europe and various other Countries fair citizens expect. Barbados needs and is going to get an entrepreneur in me, that is going to bring a level of professionalism and innovation which is currently lacking in this beautiful Caribbean island.
The rate race is well and truly left behind me, and paradise is within my sights, it feels good to finally have something to aim for and a game plan on how I’m going to a achieve it.
