Finding businesses and products in the Caribbean

author Posted by: garryaw on date Sep 1st, 2008 | filed Filed under: Uncategorized

The Caribbean is made up of various islands (eg Jamaica, St Lucia, Barbados etc) and some mainland countries (eg Belize and Guyana) which share a close cultural relationship. Over the past few years, the governments of these wonderful paradises have been trying to unite these countries under the CSME (Caribbean Single Market and Economy). The CSME in effect help to form one united Caribbean workforce and enriching each and every country that supported the CSME.

As an inhabitant a Caribbean island, and having many friends in the other islands I realized that it was a pain at times to find information on places to stay, or in the event I was looking for a job, it was very difficult. I also found it problematic that if I or any one of my friends needed to search for a business in the Caribbean it was a bit too difficult.

Being programmers by profession and solution oriented at that, two ideas were born. My good friend and coworker at that time, came up with a brilliant website idea which effectively would put the contact information for all the businesses of the Caribbean in one area… one space… one URL, an online directory to rival the great Yellow Pages. Over a period of 3 months the web site TheBizNizDir was developed and I find myself using it alot more than our yellow pages.

One of the beauties of TheBizNizDir.com is that to list your company/business particulars is totally free! Well, that’s unless you decide you want to put up a banner which will cost you. For you people out there who need to find ANY business in the Caribbean, TheBizNizDir is the place to search.

In the wake of my friend’s pro-activity, and a bit of frustration in not being to find items I was looking for online, especially within my own country, I decided that the time was right to create a simple but effective solution for locating and publishing items that myself or others wanted to sell or buy. And as such was born Carib Free Ads (CaribFreeAds.com), a simple site with the idea that people anywhere in the world could find things in the Caribbean with much less hassle. As with TheBizNizDir CaribFreeAds.com is free, however, extra props will cost.

It is our hope that these two websites in their own way, will help the Caribbean become one community, which in turn will strengthen our impact on the world.

What Can It Do For Your Online Business Article Marketing

author Posted by: garryaw on date Aug 31st, 2008 | filed Filed under: Uncategorized

Article Marketing is seen as a powerful tool to help advertise your business and is a great way to promote your business online. Article marketing is a type of advertising by writing short articles related to business’ respective industry. Article marketing is good for your business at the same time can hone your talent in writing. Article marketing is a form of advertising in which a Webmaster will write an article related to his or her web site and submit it to article directories such as EzineArticles. Article marketing is one of the most legitimate, ethical methods of getting traffic to your website and best of all, it is free.

Achieving results using article marketing is not a simple task. It is important to have original articles written with quality content. The articles are then distributed to high traffic distribution sites and niche publishers that will have a highly relevant visitor base.

The visitors will hopefully click through to your site by finding your URL in the authors information box posted with the article. If you work at it and continue adding articles consistently, you will eventually receive a sizeable amount of free traffic.

One of the biggest reasons that article marketing works is because it portrays your business as an expert in the field. Another reason article marketing works is because it is designed to spread the word.

Marketing articles are often hosted on distribution sites that allow others to reprint the article, as long as thier “resource box” the sales pitch and company information located at the end of the article is left intact.

Marketing articles can be short and may be about any topic related to your industry. For instance, if you are an ecommerce site specializing in airsoft guns, you might write an article about the different kinds of guns you carry, such as the classic army or sniper rifles.

Many online article marketers enjoy the low cost of this advertising venue, thus have written 100s and some 1,000s of articles. These prolific article authors also enjoy the abundant backlinks and when the aritlces are sent out RSS (real simple syndication) this only multiplies the exposure and number of backlinks. Therefore writing and distributing articles that contain a link to a business owner’s website within the ‘bio box’ should result in more links back to that website.

You probably know that a well-written article distributed to the most influential sites on the web will get you a lot of attention and drive visitors to your site. If you don’t have the time, experience or motivation to do article marketing yourself you need a company with wide article marketing experience. The best way is to either create or have a professional writer create an article for you that will focus on a topic so it emphasizes the correct keywords. Your article should be interesting, readable with a catchy title, and it should be search engine friendly.

Article marketing is tremendously effective because your articles in our article directory get a link back to your web site from Article Cache and from every web site, newsletter or ezine that publishes your content online. Article marketing is a critical part of any successful internet business plan. Article marketing is most probably the most effective link building strategy in existence. If article marketing is done properly, your voice, your opinions and your expertise, through the widespread of the articles that you have written will be able to go right across the Internet by being passed on and on.

Don’t Work Hard All the Time, Rest and Relaxation Are Just As Important!

author Posted by: garryaw on date Jun 20th, 2008 | filed Filed under: About Life, Uncategorized

Yesterday was a day of rest for me, I have been working solidly for over 4 weeks without having a complete day off. I’m an advocate off the theory, that if you want to succeed with your life, studies, business, work, sport or anything, you have to be prepared to work extremely hard, be exceptionally motivated, as well as putting the time and effort into it.

So yesterday was a day of rest and relaxation, it was a chance for me to recharge my batteries, in preparation for developing my present business ideas and hopefully further opportunities as and when they present themselves. I feel that when I get to Barbados and the next stage of my 2 million dollar bills plan is in place, I must start putting aside at least a few hours a day, where I put my feet up and just relax.

I feel that too many people and myself included, allow ourself’s to become too focussed and obsessed on building up businesses, that other things are forgotten about, such as family time, relaxation time or even exercising. During those times when you are away from work and when you least expect it, a great idea or opportunity can be created or discovered. When you work hard and stay focussed on something for too long, you can sometimes become stale and blinded and as a result you stifle your inspiration.

It was kind of liberating waking up late morning knowing that I never had any real work to do, I raked out the deck chair and the inspirational book by Duncan Bannatyne “Anyone Can Do It”. After few hours reading the book, I was rudely interrupted by the tune coming from the local Ice Cream van, so I done what any man would do on his day off, I rushed out and bought an ice cream. I wondered to myself if this ice cream man was possible the next Duncan Bannatyne, you never know!

I think it is imperative that those who are seeking to become successful, should spend some time reading the autobiographies of people that started off with virtually nothing and have achieved unbelievable levels of success, purely through their own ability, hard work and determination. So much can be learned about the attitude and believe systems of successful people by reading their thoughts put into words!

Sorry Duncan I had to put down your great book and head to the Plough in Northolt Village for a few liquid refreshments and some food. Because I was having a lazy day, I called a taxi. We eventually made it to the Plough, the Taxi driver was a crazy looking Indian that could barely speak a word of English and as a result he wasn’t sure where he was taking us. We eventually made it to our destination, it was remarkable how clear and well spoken Mr Indian taxi drivers English was with numbers, he managed to say the bill clear as day! I like his business sense, don’t bother learning the whole of the English language, just make sure you learn the important stuff!

The Plough must be about the only busines, which  I have been into in London since I got here 4 weeks ago, that  has only got English people working in it. I find that truly amazing, maybe they only employ people that can speak proper English.

I thought the world had truly become crazy, just before I moved down to London, I was in the Asda Walmart in Aberdeen, when I asked a customer service girl where something was, she couldn’t help me!, she was Polish, she could hardly understand me, her English was very poor. Its kind of weird to experience such things in your own country, but I suppose that’s progress for you. Maybe we Brits need to stat learning Polish so we can help make life a bit easier for all the new people coming to the UK! When I arrive in Barbados I will know some basic Bajan, it’s my duty as a guest on the Island,  20 Bajan Words That Will Make Your Trip to Barbados More Fun!

A few cool pints of Fosters went down a treat along with a juicy steak, and few long glasses of Pimms and lemonade. I reminded myself of the 2 million dollar bills dream and what I’m planning on achieving as I slowly sipped my last, one for the road glass of Pimms. It went down exceptionally well as I visualized myself sitting in the balcony of my dream Caribbean house watching the glorious sun setting.

A day of rest is not being lazy, it wont destroy or shatter your dreams, the world wont rush past you and leave you behind if you take a day off. Having a day off from time to time, is a necessity that will make you better prepared and more focussed for the challenges that lie ahead. You body, mind and soul will enjoy the chance to focus on enjoyment and pleasure for a change, instead of constantly being focussed on work related matters.

Don’t make that mistake of never taking a day off, or spending some time each day relaxing and just totally switching your mind off from work. I for one intend to make sure that I start back having some relaxation time every single day. Before I moved down to my temporary home in London from Aberdeen, I was going to the beach, park or the river virtually everyday for some relaxation time. During many of those relaxation breaks, I would come up with some good business ideas or opportunities without even thinking about them. So  much good  can be gained from one trip to the beach,  Exercise, Motivation, Relaxation and Work, All In One Journey!

I for one will be incorporating relaxation time into my daily schedule from now on, but it isn’t easy in London to find a quiet location away from the maddening roar of traffic, tubes, planes, or crazy lunatics!

5 Business Opportunities For Those Seeking to Escape The Rat Race

author Posted by: garryaw on date Jun 16th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Real World Business Opportunities, Uncategorized

The desire to escape the rat race is a dream or desire that many people have, but it’s easier said than done. The reasons for escaping are usually down to being fed up with the country or city your living in, hate your job or you are the adventurous type that is seeking a new challenge. For me personally all three were reasons which were instrumental in me planning and implementing my escape from the UK.

The biggest challenge faced by many when the dream to escape the rat race, becomes something more than just a dream. You have to decide where your going to move to, for some people it could be a simple move to a little village or town which is away from the hustle and bustle of city live. For others it could be a move to another country thousands of miles away.

Once you have decided where you would like to move to, in order to escape the rate race, you then have the problem of making enough money to live. This is the real tricky bit for most people and it sure was for me.

From my personal perspective, i didn’t want to move somewhere and start working for someone else, I didn’t want to become a slave wage in another country. That would have defeated my whole purpose of escaping the rat race of the UK, which I was allowing to destroy my body, mind and soul.

Working for myself was the only thing that would work for me, I needed to figure out what business opportunities would be viable in my planned new country.

My advice to anybody planning an escape, is to think long and hard about how you are going to make money in your new home. If you have an existing trade or skill that you are taking with you, it is a possibility you could work in a similar environment. Unless your job is one of the things your trying to  escape.

What types of business opportunities exist for you, will of course to a certain extent be dependant on where your moving too, unless your business is based online. The business opportunities which I have listed, are what I would call real world business opportunities.

1. Tours: this could take the from of a walking tour, cycling, mini bus tour.

2. Buy/lease a bar/restaurant/fast food outlet: Where ever you go in the world there is always a need for the aforementioned.

3. Juice Bar/Stall: These are becoming huge business as people continue to look for more healthy alternatives to soda.

4. Consultant: A huge amount of opportunities exist for people with the correct skills in specific industries, such as health & fitness, diet, property, landscaping, etc

5. Import/Export: It really is as simple as finding things that you can buy and then sell for a profit in your chosen market. You of course will have to have some knowledge of how the the importer/exporter business works.

For some people the above business opportunities could be their version of hell, for others it could be the start of a fantastic new future working for themselves. Whatever you decide to do, don’t just jump into something, do a vast amount of research to see if there is a market for it.

Remember you are escaping the rat, I would advise you to seek out business opportunities that you have a passion for, something that you will enjoy. If not you may find you have just created a new rat race for yourself.

For many people escaping the rat race will always remain a dream, because they dont believe that they can really do it, Dream the Dream, Then All You Have To Do Is Believe, Achieve, Succeed and if you are seeking some inspiration here are some quotes which will help you, 10 Truly Inspirational Quotes, Which will Motivate You To Greatness

Most Haunted Slains Castle, I Swear That I Could See Dracula Watching Me!

author Posted by: garryaw on date Jun 14th, 2008 | filed Filed under: Uncategorized

I had just dropped my wife off at her slave wage job at B&Q, and I had 3 hours to fill in before I had to come back and collect her. For a change it was a fairly warm evening and I felt like it would be a good idea to get some fresh air.

I thought to myself why don’t I take a wee drive to Slains Castle, which is in Cruden Bay. I drove there in about 30 minutes, and from the car park, its about a 15 minute walk along a dirt track to the rugged ruin that is called Slains Castle.

Slains Castle may not be the most stunning or majestic ruined castle that there is to see in Scotland, but it still has a very special quality. It sits perched upon cliffs that offer a deathly fall for anyone that gets a little bit to close to the edge. There is a plaque, which marks the spot of where an unfortunate child fell over the edge to their death.

This great ruin is famed for being the inspiration behind Bram Stokers legendary creation, Dracula! Bram Stoker called Slains Castle, “the Castle of the dead”. As I walked through the ruins, I couldn’t help but get an eerie kind of feeling running through my body. I had to remind myself that Dracula was just a creation of a brilliant writer with a vivid imagination.

I sat down on some rocks near to the edge of the cliffs to enjoy the fantastic views and watch the waves coming in off the North Sea violently crash against the rocks. Before I knew it, daylight was quickly fading, and it was starting to get a wee bit chillier. I kept getting a chill running down my spine, I could feel someone watching me or I should say, something watching me!

It was then when I started to think maybe Bram Stoker’s Dracula was more than just his vivid imagination, what if it was based on reality, on something real that he had witnessed. Where was Derek Acorah the physic medium when I needed him the most, he would have handled this situation like the true professional that he is.

I thought I had seen a figure dressed in black moving along the ghostly dark ruined corridors of Slains Castle, it was time for me to get the hell out of here. I then heard more movement at the opposite end of the corridor. This was starting to get real spooky, I never even had any protection on me, how could I visit Slains Castle without a cross and garlic to protect me or a wooden steak to drive through the heart of Dracula.

When I stood up to leave, I noticed a figure dressed all in black, with long black hair walking towards me. I thought if that isn’t Dracula it’s his twin brother. I quickly analysed my options, it’s either run for it or run for it, then I remembered that it would impossible to outrun Dracula.

I had to walk in Draculas direction to leave Slains Castle, I slowly walked towards my fate, sweat was dripping off my forehead and my nerves were shattered. I approached Dracula watching him for any sudden movements, he spoke, “have you seen my friend” he asked me, or I should say she! She was only a friendly Gothic Girl. I pointed her in the direction of her friend, or was it Dracula that had been lurking in the corridor.

I didn’t really care I was out of there, she looked liked she had enough blood to keep Dracula occupied for a quite a while. For me there can be no doubt that Slains Castle is the place where Bram Stoker gained his inspiration for Dracula.
