I Loved Doughnut Day, But What About A Scottish Heather Honey Lager Day

Yesterday, which was the 1st Friday of June is seemingly National Doughnut day and has being celebrated since 1938. I must admit in shame that yesterday was the first time I have heard of it, but as the saying goes better late than never. This very special day was invented by the Salvation Army as a fundraiser. Their goal was to help the needy during the Great Depression, and to honour the Salvation Army “Lassies” of World 1, who served doughnuts to soldiers behind the front lines in France.
So Doughnut Day wasn’t invented by greedy businesses to make more profits, it has more noble history behind it. Wouldn’t it be great if every doughnut that was sold yesterday, a few pennies were passed on to the Salvation Army to carry on the good works that they do. Somehow I doubt it, profits come long before good deeds!
Upon finding out it was national Doughnut Day courtesy of MSN, I had to to figure out where my nearest Krispy Kreme Doughnuts outlet was. After a little bit of research courtesy of Google, I found there was an outlet in Yeading, wherever that was! I managed to arrange a lift and life was good.
For me these are the most delicious doughnuts that I have ever tasted. The first time I ever tasted these amazing things, was in Florida about 10 years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. When I use to live in Scotland, it was impossible to get Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and as a result I had to wait until I visited London to rekindle my love affair with them.
A mixed box of 12 doughnuts was only £8.00, and for me in this day and age, that is money well spent. My favourite at the moment is New York Cheesecake, but this changes virtually every time I buy them. In respect of the Salvation Army and National Doughnut Day I thought I better buy a couple of traditional doughnuts. They are maybe simple, but they sure are delicious.
I of course shared the box of doughnuts with the wife and the kid, who greatly appreciated them. I am paying the price today for my overindulgence of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, I have been for a very long walk and a work out to try and get rid of the bulge that appeared in my stomach virtually overnight.
I’m now putting forward the motion for a National Scottish Heather Honey Lager day. It is simply one of the most unique and delicious tasting lagers that I have tasted in a long time, on a warm sunny day like today, they go down a real treat. So far I have 3 supporters of this motion, but I’m hopeful that I can make it a reality. Mr President George Bush I know you read my blog, so why don’t you finally do something worthy and Gordon Brown I know you like a wee drink or two!
The only problem I have at the moment is trying to find a shop that stocks Honey Heather Lager in London. That is another story and another day!
